Is It Time for a Roof Inspection?

Teague Roofing PlusRoofing

You schedule maintenance for your HVAC and plumbing systems, car, and even your lawn, but what about the actual roof over your head? When was the last time you had your roof inspected?

Your roof is your home’s first line of defense against storms and extreme weather. Suppose you wait until you notice a leak or water spot on the ceiling. In that case, you could already be facing much larger issues – structural damage, mold, and mildew, or ruined attic insulation, to name a few. By scheduling an annual roof inspection, you can save yourself a lot of stress down the road. Spare yourself a headache down the road by having your roof periodically inspected.

After a hailstorm, tornado, or other significant weather events, it is crucial to have your roof inspected by a professional; however, this isn’t the only time to have your roof inspected.

The best time of year to schedule your annual roof inspection is in the fall, before extreme weather sets in. There are a few reasons for this:

  • Freezing temperatures can compromise the success of new roof installations or repairs. New shingles can’t seal down properly when it’s too cold outside.
  • Repairing an icy roof can be dangerous, so roof damage discovered too late in the season may have to wait for warmer temperatures.
  • Certain roof repairs should be done in the fall. The treatments used for moss or lichen, for example, need an extended period to work. If these nasty invaders are discovered during a fall roof inspection, the treatment can be applied, work during the long winter months. Then the dead lichen or moss can be rinsed away in the spring.
