Nailing Shingles to Roof

Roof repairs and replacements are never fun; however, getting the right company for the job can make the whole process a lot easier.  Asking the right questions is one way to ensure that you have the best people working on a project.

1. Are you licensed and insured?

This is the first question you should always ask a potential roofing company. Ask for the company name, business address, and what license they have.

Insurance is absolutely vital. At the bare minimum, a roofing company must have liability insurance. This protects your property if there is any damage done by the roofing company or injuries on site.

2. How long have you been in business?

Experience is another important factor. Everyone has to start somewhere, but your roof is not something you want to leave up to a beginner.

3. What exactly are you going to do to my roof?

It is important to know exactly what your roofing company is going to do to fix your roof. A professional roofing company should be able to tell you, step by step, what needs to be done to your roof and why.

4. What is my new warranty?

Getting warranty information is one of the most important parts of choosing a roofing company. Reputable roofing companies will offer a 5 or 10-year warranty. It often includes a certified manufacturer’s warranty on shingles, as well.

5. Who should I communicate with on-site?

Find out the name of the project manager, and meet them in person if possible. Knowing who to talk to in case something goes wrong, needs adjusting or if an issue comes up will give you peace of mind during the repair or replacement process.

6. Can I have a written estimate?

A new roof is a big investment. The cost of a repair or replacement can vary, so you should work with your roofing company to go through the specifics. A written estimate will also help you budget for the expense, and will often be required by your insurance company.
